Weekly Newsletter March 23-27


March 23rd - 27th
What are we doing this week?
HORN
This week we continue preparing for the ACT Aspire.
 
LEARNING TARGETS
·         Prepare for ACT Aspire
·         I can find the area and perimeter of any shape.
·         I can I can recognize various quadrilaterals.
 
 
 
 
This week in Science we will begin our new unit, weather! The kids are so excited and so am I! James Spann will be coming to speak to your child at an assembly this Thursday so we are looking forward to that!
 
WOODS
This week we continue preparing for the ACT Aspire.
LEARNING TARGETS
·         Prepare for ACT Aspire.
·         respond to a prompt to produce a personal narrative
 
 
There is no spelling this week! We will resume after Spring Break
HOMEWORK
WOODS:
-Students must read for 20 minutes each night & Log on their Biweekly Reading Log. The Reading is Thinking Homework on the back of their log must also be completed this week  
 
HORN:
Students must complete 30 minutes of Dreambox this week at home. Additional (low amount of problems) homework may be given if the teacher sees the need for practice of a particular skill. Remember Dreambox records time from Sunday to Saturday.
 
***NOTE- PLEASE HELP US ENSURE THAT STUDENTS ARE TAKING CARE OF THEIR HOMEWORK BY CHECKING AND SIGNING THEIR AGENDAS AND READING LOGS NIGHTLY. YOU CAN ALSO ASSIST IN THIS MATTER BY MAKING SURE THAT STUDENTS ARE KEEPING THEIR HOMEWORK SLEEVES IN THEIR BINDERS UPDATED. THIS MEANS THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CHECKING IT NIGHTLY, COMPLETEING THE ASSIGNMENTS THERE, AND RETURNING THE APPROPRIATE PAPERS TO THAT SECTION.
Tests
HORN: Students will have a weekly skills assessment test on Friday. Students will also have a performance task mid week regarding the geometric terms and shapes we've learned thus far in our geometry unit.    
 
WOODS: None.

March 9-13

March 9th  - 13th
What are we doing this week?
HORN
This week in math we will continue our fraction unit. We will complete the unit and take the unit test  

Learning Targets
·         I can recognize equivalent fractions and explain why.
·         I can represent fractions on a number line.
·         I can generate equivalent fractions.

In Science we have two more days on our matter unit because of weather delays. Next, we will move on to our chemical reaction unit.



WOODS
This week we will continue a brief Beverly Cleary Unit. We will read continue the story Ramona’s World. In continuing this story we will begin discussing how to identify the them in a text. We will continue ACT Aspire preparation by responding to narrative prompts.
LEARNING TARGETS
·         Determine the theme of a text and identify supporting evidence for the theme.
·         Write a narrative essay using prompts.
·         Use a checklist to edit and revise my writing.
·         Students will also receive a spelling list that includes words with affixes .Here’s the Spelling City link for practice: spellingcity.com/paine3. We are currently on the Unit 5 Lesson 3  list.
HOMEWORK
WOODS:
