April 27th - May 1st Newsletter


April 27th – May 1st   
What are we doing this week?
HORN
This week we will be practicing multiplication often in the classroom. We will also begin our measurement unit.
 
LEARNING TARGETS
·         I can name units used to measure length, weight, mass, capacity, and volume.
·         I can estimate appropriate units to use when measuring certain items.
·         I can measure items to the nearest 1/4th and ½ inch.
·         I can master my multiplication facts up to 12.
 
This week in Science we continue our force and motion unit. We will also present our brochures that we worked so hard on in our weather unit!
WOODS
This week we will conclude our final novel study of the year. We will enjoy the classic novel Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White.  
LEARNING TARGETS
·         Read and comprehend a text using a variety of comprehension strategies learned in 3rd grade.
·         Answer questions providing evidence to support my thinking.
·         Summarize
·         Compare and contrast two film versions of Charlotte’s Web.
·         You can find our spelling words on our Spelling City site at: www.spellingcity.com/paine3. We are on Unit 6 Lesson 3.
HOMEWORK
WOODS:
-Students must read for 20 minutes each night & Log on their Biweekly Reading Log. The Reading is Thinking Homework on the back of their log must also be completed this week  
 
HORN:
Students must complete 30 minutes of Dreambox this week at home. Additional (low amount of problems) homework may be given if the teacher sees the need for practice of a particular skill. Remember Dreambox records time from Sunday to Saturday.
 
***NOTE- PLEASE HELP US ENSURE THAT STUDENTS ARE TAKING CARE OF THEIR HOMEWORK BY CHECKING AND SIGNING THEIR AGENDAS AND READING LOGS NIGHTLY. YOU CAN ALSO ASSIST IN THIS MATTER BY MAKING SURE THAT STUDENTS ARE KEEPING THEIR HOMEWORK SLEEVES IN THEIR BINDERS UPDATED. THIS MEANS THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CHECKING IT NIGHTLY, COMPLETEING THE ASSIGNMENTS THERE, AND RETURNING THE APPROPRIATE PAPERS TO THAT SECTION.
Tests
HORN: Students will have a daily math skills test on Friday.
 
WOODS: Spelling Test Thursday.

Weekly Newsletter April 13-17


April 13th  – 17th  
What are we doing this week?
HORN
This week we continue preparing for the ACT Aspire. We will also continue our geometry unit.
 
LEARNING TARGETS
·         Prepare for ACT Aspire.
·         Take the ACT Aspire.
·         I can find the area and perimeter of any shape.
·         I can use the total perimeter to find a missing side length.
 
This week in Science we will finish our weather unit.  Students will create a brochure all about severe weather. We will also begin our forces and motion unit if time permits.
 
WOODS
This week we will begin the final novel in our Beverly Cleary Unit titled Beezus and Ramona.
LEARNING TARGETS
·         Sequence events from a story.
·         Describe characters and their traits using evidence from the text.
·         Ask and answer questions and make connections for a specific text.
·         NO SPELLING THIS WEEK .
HOMEWORK
WOODS:
