Weekly Newsletter Oct. 20-24

October 20th - October 24th
What are we doing this week?
HORN

·         This week in Math we will continue our Multiplication Unit. We will work on number relationships, and using efficient strategies to determine unknown numbers on a number line.

·         This week in Science we will continue our Human Body Unit. We will read a few stories from the Science stories folio, discuss the function of the human skeleton, build our own human skeleton, and take apart an owl pellet comparing the animal bones to human bones!

WOODS
·         This week we will practice reading and interpreting information on a timeline! This will require us to read a variety of nonfiction texts over the week, so there is not one set story we will focus on. However as we begin to create timelines, we will refer back to last week’s story,  The Journey of Oliver K. Woodman.
·         This week in language, we will practice identifying and using using verbs.
·         Students will also receive a new spelling list that includes words that are considered “Horrible  Homophones”, words that have the same sound but different spellings and meanings! We are going to have fun with this list! Here’s the Spelling City link for practice: spellingcity.com/paine3. We are currently on the Unit 2 Lesson 4 list.

HOMEWORK
WOODS:
-Students must read for 20 minutes each night & record the number of pages they have read in the Agenda/Husky Pad. Remember, we are now having students to log their at home reading in the very last section of the Agenda. Students should be recording the title of the book they read and the pages they’ve read.

HORN:
Students must complete 30 minutes of Dreambox this week at home. Additional (low amount of problems) homework may be given if the teacher sees the need for practice of a particular skill. Remember Dreambox records time from Sunday to Saturday.
Tests
HORN: There will be an assessment Friday on the skills the students work on in daily math this week. Students will be allowed to take home their daily math each day to study.

WOODS: Spelling Assessment Thursday; Timeline Assessment Friday.
