Weekly Newsletter Feb 9-13

February 9th -13th
What are we doing this week?
HORN
This week in Math we will begin a new unit, FRACTIONS

Learning Targets
·         I can use fractions to describe parts of a whole.    



This week in Science we will end our discussion of the moon/space and begin physical and chemical changes.

WOODS
This week we continue our Great Depression Unit.

LEARNING TARGETS
·          Gain background knowledge of The Great Depression.
·          Use knowledge of The Great Depression to write a historical fiction piece of writing.
·         Students will also receive a spelling list that includes words with –ity, -less, -ness, and -sion .Here’s the Spelling City link for practice: spellingcity.com/paine3. We are currently on the Unit 4 Lesson 3 list.
HOMEWORK
WOODS:
-Students must read for 20 minutes each night & Log on their Biweekly Reading Log. The Reading is Thinking Homework on the back of their log must also be completed this week

HORN:
Students must complete 30 minutes of Dreambox this week at home. Additional (low amount of problems) homework may be given if the teacher sees the need for practice of a particular skill. Remember Dreambox records time from Sunday to Saturday.
Tests
HORN: Students will have a P.U.M.P. exam on Thursday.   

WOODS: Spelling Assessment Thursday; Great Depression Vocabulary Assessment Tuesday

Upcoming Events
Math
·         We will continue our Fraction Unit.

·         Book Fair -February 9th -13th.  Family Nights are Tuesday and Thursday (4-7 pm).  Donuts with Dads days are Wednesday and Friday (8-11 am).
·         Love Your Neighbor Food Drive-February 9-13. If possible, please have your child bring in a few nonperishable items!
·         Valentine’s Parties- February 13th.
·         Picture day February 10th.
